How to Design a Life You Love

The Wheel of Life is a powerful tool designed to help you evaluate and balance the key areas of your life. Picture each aspect, health, relationships, career, personal growth, and more—as spokes on a wheel. When one spoke is too short or out of alignment, the wheel struggles to turn smoothly. By visually assessing these areas, you can identify where you’re thriving and where improvement is needed, creating clarity on what’s holding you back from the life you desire.
As the saying goes, “You can’t improve what you don’t measure.” The Wheel of Life gives you the starting point to measure and design your life intentionally. Design a Life You Love Categories
Your Wheel of Life might include eight to ten categories that are vital for a balanced life. It’s essential to maintain harmony across these areas to avoid focusing too much on one aspect, like work, at the expense of others, such as health or relationships.
Here are some typical categories:
Health: Physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Family & Friends: Relationships with those closest to you.
Significant Other: Your romantic relationship or life partner.
Social: Group activities and spiritual communities.
Financial: Managing your finances effectively.
Career: Your job, business, or career path.
Personal Growth & Development: Continuous learning and self-improvement.
Spiritual: Your beliefs or connection to a higher power.
Environment: The health of your home and work environments.
Wellness: Sleep, resilience, movement, nutrition, and more.
Feel free to modify these categories to better reflect your life today.
How to Select Your Life Categories

To ensure balance and fulfillment, you need to address all the areas that make up your life and are important to you.
Here’s how you can do it:
Assess Your Current Level of Fulfillment: Reflect on what success or satisfaction feels like in each area of your life. Close your eyes and visualize success in each category. How does it feel?
Identify Major Categories: Using the list above as a guide, think about your values and why they are important. For example, if health is a top priority, consider what actions you need to take if you’re not fully satisfied in this area.
Rank Your Satisfaction: Draw a line across each segment of your Wheel of Life, rating your satisfaction from 1 (very dissatisfied) to 10 (fully satisfied) in each category.
Reflect on Your Wheel: Look at your Wheel of Life. Are there any surprises? How do you feel about your life as you see it represented in this way? Visualize yourself as a 10 in each area. What does that feel like?
Take Action: Identify which categories you want to improve. What steps can you take to make space for these changes? What support do you need from others? Let’s create a plan of action to design the life you are meant to live.
